Science Support
In 1980, when I was a very young associate, one of the senior trial lawyers in my firm asked me to handle a critical environmental lawsuit brought against one of his clients because I had a degree in chemical engineering and he admittedly wasn’t much for “science stuff.” Since then, most of my legal practice has centered on the preparation and trial of cases involving complex medical, scientific and technological issues. I’m a self-avowed “science geek” and love devising compelling visual, testimonial and thematic narratives to help lay jurors and judges understand and be persuaded by good science.
Specific skills I offer in this arena include the following:
-
Integrating scientific, medical and technological aspects of case into overall litigation strategy;
-
Assisting other attorneys in understanding and presenting complex science;
-
Developing demonstrative evidence, including courtroom graphics, animations and physical models, to aid jurors’ understanding of scientific concepts;
-
Researching and analyzing scholarly articles, journals, and other studies to support or refute scientific theories advanced in litigation;
-
Working with in-house and outside medical and scientific witnesses in preparation for deposition and trial testimony.
